Welcome to my website! I am a political, legal, and moral philosopher. My main areas of interest include economic justice, liberalism and its critics, the law and ethics of war and warfare, the nature of causal and moral reasoning, and theories of punishment, compensation, and responsibility. I consider myself a left-libertarian, which means that I embrace many of the same policies that liberal egalitarians do but I use the principle of liberty rather than the principle of equality to get there. All my work, however, strives to develop principles of justice that should be acceptable to those on the right as well as the left, at least to the extent those in each group actually believe what they say they believe. On my website you can find detailed abstracts and samples of my work, syllabi for the courses that I teach, videos of some of my lectures and book talks, and more.
